After months of development, we've cracked the Simos 18.4 ECU wide open. FlashZilla Pro now delivers full OBD flashing for the B9 platform. That means Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunes for the A4, A5, Allroad and Q5, all from your driveway. This is a milestone we've been working toward for a long time. The Simos 18.4 is one of the most popular ECUs in the modern Audi lineup. Owners of these cars have been asking for at-home flashing capability. Now they have it. FlashZilla Pro brings our full tuning library to the B9 2.0 TFSI with a simple OBD connection, a Windows laptop, and the TuneZilla Portal app.How FlashZilla Pro Works With the Simos 18.4FlashZilla Pro is an OBD dongle that plugs directly into your car's diagnostic port. You connect it to a Windows 10 or 11 laptop running our TuneZilla Portal app. The app links to our InstatTune online database. From there, you can browse, purchase, and download tunes. Then you flash them straight to the ECU.The process is the same whether you're loading a Stage 1 or Stage 2 file. FlashZilla Pro was engineered with multiple failsafes and recovery options. If something interrupts the flash, you have a path back. We do recommend keeping a battery charger connected during the process.Stage 1: Serious Power With Zero Hardware ChangesStage 1 is where most B9 owners start. It's a pure software upgrade with no hardware modifications required. The results speak for themselves. Our Stage 1 tune delivers approximately 270 whp and 313 lb-ft of torque to the wheels. That's roughly a 50 hp and 67 lb-ft increase over the factory calibration. You'll feel the difference the moment you touch the throttle. The beauty of Stage 1 is simplicity. Flash the tune and drive. No downpipe, no intercooler, no additional parts to source or install. It's the fastest path to meaningful power on the B9 platform.Stage 2: More Power With the Right Supporting HardwareStage 2 pushes the 2.0 TFSI further. We see approximately 286 whp and 341 lb-ft of torque at the wheels. But this level of output requires supporting modifications. At minimum, you'll need an aftermarket downpipe. As engine output climbs, exhaust flow becomes critical. A higher-flowing downpipe reduces backpressure and keeps exhaust gas temperatures in check. We also strongly recommend an upgraded intercooler. More power means more heat in the intake charge. A quality intercooler keeps air temperatures manageable and performance consistent. This is also where DSG tuning enters the conversation. At Stage 2 power levels, a DSG tune isn't optional. It's essential for getting that power to the ground reliably. The factory transmission calibration wasn't designed for these torque figures. What Preparation Does the B9 Need Before Tuning?Preparation matters regardless of which stage you choose. Start with the basics. Make sure all scheduled maintenance is current. Fresh oil, clean filters and healthy spark plugs create the foundation for safe tuning. For Stage 1, that's essentially all you need. The car should be in good mechanical health before adding power. If something is already marginal, more horsepower will only accelerate the problem. For Stage 2, the checklist grows. Install your aftermarket downpipe and intercooler before flashing the tune. Have your DSG tune ready to go at the same time. Running a Stage 2 ECU calibration without the supporting hardware defeats the purpose. Can You Switch Between Stage 1 and Stage 2?Yes. If you buy a stage 2 tune, the stage 1 tune is free. Once you have both tunes, FlashZilla Pro lets you switch between them at any time. The process is the same as the initial flash. One practical note here. If you've already installed Stage 2 hardware like a downpipe, switching back to Stage 1 software doesn't make much sense. The hardware is there. You might as well run the calibration that takes advantage of it.For owners who want to start with Stage 1 and upgrade later, the path is simple. You can upgrade your tune through the TuneZilla Portal by paying the difference in cost. How Safe Are Stage 1 and Stage 2 Tunes?Stage 1 and Stage 2 calibrations for the 2.0 TFSI have a long track record. These are well-understood platforms with years of tuning data behind them.At TuneZilla, we prioritize reliability and daily drivability. These tunes are still relatively mild in the grand scheme of what the 2.0 TFSI can handle. You are pushing the hardware harder than stock. But with proper maintenance and the right supporting modifications, you shouldn't run into issues. The key is doing it right. Maintain the car, install the correct hardware for your stage and don't skip the DSG tune at Stage 2. Follow that formula and these cars are remarkably capable.Check out the B9 catalog for more
